Videoglide For Mac Catalina

What will the kit copy? What won't it copy?
You'll be able to copy all your own homemade videos and most things recorded from TV. Each shop-bought video we tried converted fine (Ivor The Engine, The Clangers, and the Bond movie Goldeneye)
Anything else you have, on what looks like a regular blank tape, should be transferable.
You can connect any older camcorder or VCR - we supply a one metre phono lead and a phono to Scart adapter.
How easy is it to use?
Just plug the Scart adapter into the back of your VHS video player, attach the phono lead, connect the USB capture device to the phono lead, plug the USB adapter directly into your Mac. Install software provided. Capture to Mac. Burn to DVD.
What spec Mac do I need?
Any Mac made in the last ten years will be fine providing it runs one of these versions of Mac OS:
Snow Leopard (10.6.8), Lion (10.7.5), Mountain Lion (10.8.5), Mavericks (10.9.5), Yosemite (10.10.5), El Capitan (10.11), Sierra (10.12), High Sierra (10.13.6) and Mojave (10.14). Not suitable for Catalina (10.15) or Big Sur 11
Technical info : The software supports PAL & NTSC devices. Both S-Video and Composite video inputs are supported by the software & USB hardware (we supply a composite lead). Even and odd fields are combined into single frames that can be captured at full frame rates for the applicable standard (VHS Upscaling). The maximum supported frame size is: PAL (UK & Europe) 720 x 576 (DVD quality) @ 25fps / NTSC (USA) 720 x 480 @ 30fps. Captures from PAL 50, PAL60 and NTSC_433 sources in colour - good for UK NTSC playback VCRs. Captures video & audio via a USB port to a standard uncompressed Quicktime .MOV or H.264 or MPEG-4 movie file. Our adapter performs time base correction on the incoming signal, which means even your wobbly & wavy 1980s wedding video can be transferred, providing it plays back okay on a TV. You can attach VHS-C, Video8, Hi8, Digital8 & Mini DV camcorders via RCA phono outputs, as well as any VCR with a Scart output. You can also attach more modern devices like, Freeview, satellite & cable, hard drive recorders - basically anything with a Scart output. Also, if you have an older pre-Scart Betamax or VHS player with separate Video & Audio out sockets, we can supply a free BNC bayonet to RCA phono adapter, just ask.
In addition to the USB adapter, we also supply a Scart adapter and a one metre long RCA phono plug to plug lead with all orders, so the kit can be used with all VCRs and camcorders.

Our kit will grab from any VCR or camcorder at DVD resolution with no loss of quality. It will keep recording until you run out of hard drive space. Video & audio will stay in perfect sync. Edit using iMovie or Final Cut Pro. Burn to DVD using iDVD or Burn OSX. The DVDs you make will play in any DVD player.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How easy is it to use Video-2-Mac?
A. Just follow our printed instructions & copy what we do in the video tutorial.
Q. How long does it take to get one hour of video onto a DVD?
A. Capturing one hour of video takes 60 minutes. You can then copy it to a USB stick or edit it in iMovie. Burning to DVD takes another 10 minutes.
Q. How much video can I fit on a blank DVD?
A. Two hours on a 4.7GB DVD-R. Three hours & thirty minutes on a dual-layer 8.5GB DVD+R.
Q. My Mac doesn't have a CD/DVD drive, so how do I install the software?
A. We also provide an internet download link for the software & video tutorials
Q. My Mac didn't come with iMovie, Final Cut or iDVD, can I still use your kit?
A. Absolutely. Capture using the provided software and your video is in a standard H.264 file which can be shared on a USB stick or over the internet and viewed on any PC or Mac using the free VLC Media Player. You can burn a DVD using the Burn OSX software included with the kit, no need for iDVD. If you don't have iMovie or Final Cut on your Mac you can use OpenShot to edit your videos.
Q. Is this older version of the Video-2-Mac kit suitable for use with Mac OS Catalina 10.15 or Big Sur 11?
A. No, Catalina and Big Sur will only allow 64 bit apps to run and VideoGlide is a 32 bit app. The developer can't make a 64 bit version of VideoGlide because it sits on Apple's Quicktime framework which is also 32 bit. Also the USB adapter with this kit only works on 32 bit Macs. If you want the new version of Video-2-Mac go here. You'd only want to buy this older version of Video-2-Mac if you're running Snow Leopard (10.6.8), Lion (10.7.5), Mountain Lion (10.8.5), Mavericks (10.9.5), Yosemite (10.10.5) and can't upgrade further , or you want to transfer NTSC films on a UK VCR with NTSC plaback on El Capitan, Sierra, High Sierra or Mojave (as the new Video-2-Mac USB adapter doesn't support NTSC_433 mode).

They will also work on MAC OS X 10.5.8 or later with the commercially available Videoglide software. What is the minimum recommended specification machine to run a USB video grabber on? System Requirements: P4 1.7GHz CPU or above - 256MB RAM - VGA card with 32MB memory - One available USB 2.0 port 1 GB+ hard drive space for video capture.

    Videoglide For Mac Catalina Update

    General:

    Videoglide For Mac Catalina

VideoGlide devices have been sold by various manufacturers since 1998. Manufacturers include Pinnacle, KWorld, LinXcel, VideoHome and many others. Devices originally sold as PC-only are also supported. Compatibility can be checked using the VideoGlide For Mac OS X demo mode. Simply click the 'Download' button on the right, and install and run the software.
VideoGlide devices allow the capture of video from almost any video source including VCRs, cam-corders, DVD players, personal video recorders, digital cameras, etc.
VideoGlide devices accept either s-video or composite video sources and will work with the broadcast standards NTSC, PAL and SECAM found throughout most of the world.

Video from VideoGlide devices can be used in a variety of ways. For example, you can record your favorite home-movies and clips to keep handy on your computer. It can be used with web-cam software to upload an image to the Internet periodically. It can be used with web-streaming software to create online broadcasts of live or prerecorded events. Live-video chat is possible with the appropriate software. Captured movies can be put on a CD or a website for viewing by anyone with a CD player or Internet access. It can be used for motion-detection applications, or by clay-mation hobbyists. For a summary of some of the supported third-party software and where to obtain it, check the 'Applications' page.

The VideoGlide software is capable of capturing a maximum of 29.97 frames per second for NTSC or 25 frames per second for PAL. The maximum frame size is 640 x 480.

The captured video quality is extremely good, with brighter colors and better contrast than typical DV captures. Video and audio synchronization is excellent, even with extremely long captures. Captured movies require only 66.5 GB of disk storage per hour of uncompressed yuv video. Using the recommended JPEG compression requires only 3 GB of storage per hour.

    How To Get Mac Catalina

In addition to video, the VideoGlide software is able to capture still images with a resolution of 640 x 480.

    Mac Catalina Update

Some VideoGlide devices come with audio inputs. These audio inputs are occassionally rerouted to the Mac microphone port, in which case the audio sample rate is as good as the Mac can provide; typically 44.1 KHz 16-bit stereo. In other cases, audio is brought in over USB along with the video. These devices support up to 48 KHz 16-bit stereo.

The VideoGlide software supports multiple devices, i.e. more than one device can be plugged in and used at the same time. This is particularly useful with security applications like Ben Bird's SecuritySpy. It can also allow multiple simultaneous broadcasts from the same machine using webcam software like Econ Technologies' ImageCaster. Note that one serial number per device will be required, i.e. to enable 3 devices, 3 serial numbers must be purchased. Note that a stock machine with no additional USB 2.0 PCI cards can run only two devices simultaneously, and one of those must be at 320 x 240. Adding USB 2.0 expansion cards can increase the number of devices that can run simultaneously, and the frame sizes at which they can operate.

Auto-Detect Input And Format allows video sources to be swapped in an and out dynamically without the need to inform the application that a change occurred. The VideoGlide software will automatically select the input carrying the video, as well as its format, for example PAL or NTSC.

The included VideoGlide Capture software will allow you to capture video from a VideoGlide device. It also has an extremely fast full-screen preview mode. VideoGlide is Apple-scriptable.

    Videoglide Capture Mac Catalina

The included VideoGlide Export software will allow the export of QuickTime movies to any other QuickTime format including DV Streams required by iMovie and H.264 or MPEG-4 movies required by iTunes and video-enabled Pods. QuickTime Pro is not required.
